NCLR EVENT TO HONOR PARTNERSHIP WITH STATE FARM INSURANCE COMPANIES

Special Announcement to Be Made by State Farm

Washington, DC—The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) will host a Partnership Luncheon in honor of Edward B. Rust Jr., Chairman and CEO of State Farm Insurance Companies, on Thursday, October 2, 12:30–2:00 p.m. The event will recognize State Farm Insurance Companies’ long-standing support of NCLR’s work to strengthen the Latino community. The luncheon will take place at NCLR’s headquarters in the Raul Yzaguirre Building at 1126 16th Street, NW, in Washington, DC.

Former Governor of West Virginia Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education and author of Raising the Grade, will be a guest speaker in a luncheon program that includes remarks by NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguía and Edward B. Rust Jr. Murguía and Rust will address the many ways in which their two organizations collaborate to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans, such as building education programs designed to improve literacy rates among English language learner students, developing a service-learning initiative at Latino schools, and increasing the participation of Hispanic parents in their children’s education. The State Farm Insurance Companies were also vital in helping NCLR recently secure a permanent headquarters building for the nation’s leading Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization.

Rust and Murguía will be available for interviews following the luncheon.

The luncheon is by invitation only; members of the press may contact Jacqueline Pacheco at jpacheco@nclr.org or (202) 776-1566 to RSVP.
