NCLR INSTITUTE OF HISPANIC HEALTH HOSTS HEART HEALTH SUMMIT FEATURING REP. LINDA SANCHEZ (D-CA)Long Beach, CA — The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and the NCLR/California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) Center for Latino Community Health, Evaluation & Leadership Training, a collaboration of the NCLR, the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., and CSULB will host the CommUNITY Heart Health Summit, Cuidar de Nuestros Corazones es Amar Nuestra Salud, sponsored by Merck/Schering-Plough. Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (D-CA) will deliver remarks to attendees and DR. Hector Balcazar, Regional Dean of Public Health, University of Texas Health Science Center, will serve as the summit’s keynote speaker. During the Summit, health experts will discuss the challenges Latinos face in the healthcare system, heart health physical risk factors, cultural factors impacting Latino health, Promotores (lay health educators) heart health programs, the role of the media in promoting Latino health, and the industry role in improving doctor/patient dialogue. As the fastest-growing minority population in the U.S., Latinos’ heart health is a critical national issue. Effective Latino health programs are necessary for a healthier, stronger America.
