CALIFORNIA LATINO ORGANIZATIONS HOLD BRIEFING ON STATE OF LATINOS AND BRING COMMUNITY LEADERS TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIMENCLR, MALDEF, Latino Issues Forum, and Latino Coalition for a Healthy California Hold Joint Advocacy Day in Sacramento Sacramento, CA The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., will hold a briefing with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), Latino Issues Forum, and Latino Coalition for a Healthy California to discuss key issues of concern for California’s Latino community. The State of Latinos Issue Briefing will take place on Tuesday, April 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the California Room of the Holiday Inn. This is the first time these four groups have come together to hold an issue briefing on topics such as education, health care, and immigration. The briefing will also include a detailed discussion on current health care reform proposals before the legislature. The briefing is part of California Advocacy Day where 200 community leaders, representing 29 Senate districts and 39 assembly districts, will meet with policy-makers to help draw attention to issues important to the Latino community. Legislative priorities include providing access to quality and affordable health care programs to all Californians, improving early childhood education programs, increasing the pool of bilingual teachers, and supporting affordable housing, among many others.
