AWARD WINNER TEXAS MIGRANT COUNCIL, INC. OFFERS FAMILY STRENGTHENING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TRAINING TO HISPANIC COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONSWashington, DC On February 15-16, Texas Migrant Council, Inc.’s Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Family Literacy Program, a program that improves educational and job opportunities for migrant farmworker families, will host a training session for several Latino community-based organizations (CBOs), including NCLR affiliates Youth Development, Inc. of Albuquerque, New Mexico and SER Child Development Center of Dallas, Texas. These sessions will showcase the work of Texas Migrant Council, Inc. as a model for how other CBOs throughout the country can help strengthen Hispanic families in their communities. In 2005, Texas Migrant Council, Inc. received the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and Annie E. Casey Foundation Family Strengthening Award for its innovative approach to helping overburdened families achieve literacy. The honored program, Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Family Literacy Program, provides health care, day care, adult education, employment services, and infant/ toddler/ preschool education in 64 Head Start centers.
