Camino Nuevo is a public charter school for grades K-12 designed to meet the educational needs of the largely Latino community in the Mid-Wilshire/Greater Westlake area of Los Angeles, a densely populated, urban, low-income area of west downtown Los Angeles. Camino Nuevo helps students become self-motivated, competent, and lifelong learners through a school design focused on high academic expectations and enrichment activities. To achieve the student learning goals, the Camino Nuevo curriculum meets the core academic content standards of the California State Board of Education (SBE). The SBE content standards are supplemented by proven, research-based academic and enrichment programs, including the Crossroads School curriculum and Core Knowledge. Camino Nuevo has clearly defined what students should know in each subject at each grade level. These measurable outcomes are based on the content of the curriculum and will serve as the basis to measure student outcomes.
